, the elementary shooting in newtown, connecticut we have been reporting a few days before that in the oregon shopping mall shooting. also recall over the summer the aurora movie theater massacre that gun involved. one of the weapons the beltway snipers used in washington, d.c. in 2002. david lee miller has been tracking today's developments. he joins us live from our new york newsroom. david lee, police say now they searched the house. they haven't been able to get in there for a while and they found somebody's remains. who is it? >> that's right. it now seems almost certain jamie that spangler is responsible for the death of his 67-year-old sister with whom he had a relationship. shortly after the rampage authorities say she couldn't be located and this afternoon authorities said they made a grizzly discovery. >> we did locate apparent human remains in the ruins of the house of 191 lake road. the medical examiner has removed those remains. again, 191 lake road is where the shooter resided with his sister. medical examiner will be working on the identification. i'm assuming that's going to t

in this country, memories of violence and loss were still fresh in newtown, connecticut. as townspeople filled trinity episcopal church on christmas eve. the pastor focused on the youngest worshippers ten days after a gunman killed 20 students and six adults at an elementary school. >> i just want to ask how you are. are you good? >> yeah. are you okay? are you doing okay? >> ifill: today visitors stopped by a snow-covered memorial to those lost at sandy hook. >> as a parent, i just wanted o come to respect the kids and the adulls. it touched everybody's heart. i just couldn't move forward without coming this morning early, you know, and just saying a prayer. >> we just wanted to come down and show support for the families obviously they will never be the same again. whose holidays will never be. >> ifill: in parts of the country's mid section, the holiday was marked by bad weather. snow was moving from the ozarks through the ohio valley, causing blizzard warnings in indiana and kentucky. sleet, freezing rain caused a 21-car pile-up in oklahoma. and left cars spinning on icy roads all the way

to string of deadly shootings we've been covering like that one and newtown, connecticut, and aurora, colorado. a new york newspaper is facing a fierce backlash. look at this. this interactive map on the website. if you click on dots it gives you names and addresses of registered pistol permit holders. those who have guns legally, we should point out. david lee miller has the story from our new york city newsroom. hi, david lee. >> reporter: hi, jamie. all readers have to do is click on a colored dot on the interactive map published by "the journal news" and people can see names and addresses of people who have permit for the gun. the gun owner next store, what you don't know about weapons in your neighborhood. in a follow-up article the paper says, thousands of people reacted in rage. callers complained their privacy was being violated and personal safety was put at risk. the newspaper says it legally obtained the information after making freedom of information request in rock lan and westchester, two counties just outside of new york city. the paper is waiting for nearby putnam cou

the information. quote the massacre in newtown remains at the top for many of the readers. our website as hapb keenly focused on gun control. this is not the first time the paper has published information about gun permits. it did so back in 2006. said reaction this time was much greater due do the popularity of social media. the paper is owned by ganette it has been struggling economically. it eliminated last year 12 oeupb 5% of its staff. they say resources were being preserve used to proceed serve relevant contact. they are posting online personal information of the executives of the newspaper. the paper said he owns a smith and west on 357 magnum. gregg: i'm going to be interested to see if my name is on the list since i live there. folks there think that the newspaper is run by idiots and morons, and this may have proved them correct i don't know. we'll see. david lee miller, thanks very much. heather: well, there is that. gregg: yes, there is that. you know what they are trying to do, they are trying to sigma ty people and it's very mean spirit towed do it especially right now. heather:
